The folklore group Triglav |
| |
|
The main objective of
the folklore group Triglav is to preserve, or rather to reproduce,
the Slovene dance heritage. The folk dances that were danced in the
country, in the period from the first half of the 19. century to the
first half of the 20. century, come to life again on stage in
various choreographies that have been adapted to today's way of life
as well as to the fact that it is a stage performance. In the
younger and older group there are more than 40 members. |

 |
|
Most of the
choreographies that the folklore group Triglav performs are based on
the dance heritage from Gorenjska, as the group leaders feel obliged
to pay special attention to the region, where most of the group
members come from. Thus, the group has managed to put together over
15 choreographies up to the year 2004, where the core is the dances
that have their roots in Gorenjska, and 9 choreographies that find
their dance heritage in Bela Krajina, Prekmurje, Posočje and
Štajerska. |

|
In most of the
choreographies, danced by the folklore group Triglav, different
elements interact. The common thread is always the folk dance, while
the choreography itself will include also other segments of culture
and lifestyle of the people in the old days. Different customs and
traditions are included in the choreographies, that also tackle the
everyday facts of life; for instance the relationship between the
younger and the older generation, the role of village eccentrics, …. |

During the
performances, the members of the folklore group Triglav wear
different costumes, that illustrate both festive attire and work
clothes, worn by the Slovene peasant population in different places
and time periods. The costumes are of particular interest, as they
have have been founded on well-informed sources reporting about the
clothing culture in Slovenia, because of the accuracy in the
planning and the care taken in the manufacturing process. The owners
of the costumes, presenting the traditional festive attire in
Gorenjska in the first half of the 19. century, are the members
themselves. Apart from those, the group has a common wardrobe,
containing more than 500 different and uniquely designed pieces of
clothing, that can be worn in different combinations to present the
peasants' clothing fashion in Slovenia. |
